Bruce Brown & Bob Matthews

Another year, another Mullet! We had 140 total participants toe the line yesterday on a classic dry Fall day. Thanks to all who came out and enjoyed the event, brought potluck, endured my 8 hour playlist (sorry about the Gangsta Rap that got mixed in there from my kids' iCloud playlist!).

I wanted to publicly thank my crew that helped me put it all together. Bob Matthews, Walt Herron, and Josh Shipman for the majority of the trail work help. Christine Brennan Cooney, Ron Cooney - and the wonderful potluck! Thank you Velorosa Cycling Team for that and your thoughtfulness - it was greatly appreciated. Paul and Christy Varnum, Kristin & Bruce Reese, Becky & Kurt Needles, Tara Starr. Nick Woolley, Jeff Riemenschneider, Kevin Welsch, Mia Gehringer, Simpson Students, Scott Sumpter & Bike, Alan Avery & Elvish Consulting, Rob Cook & Heather Wince for the generators, Sterling Heise & Greg Rasmussen for the PA System and beverages, and CITA for the use of the trailer on our workday and for the super fun Stihl Magnum leaf blower. Actually - many pitched in and helped with set up and tear down and I thank you all for helping with that!!!

As usual with the Mullet tradition, we left the place looking much better than we found it. Now it's time for me to relax a bit and climb back on the bike to enjoy some Fall mountain biking...

Mountain Biking

Distance - Each lap is 6.5 miles

IMBCS enjoys a return Fall visit on October 4th to the beautiful Lake Ahquabi State Park south of Indianola, Iowa for the The Mullet Fall Classic. Hosted by Bruce Brown, and Bob Matthews - the 2015 version will be the 8th time Lake Ahquabi has been a part of the IMBCS. New for this year is also a Trail Runners Race at 9:30 AM!! Back is the Marathon, special FAT BIKE race, Kids Race, Chip Timing, Pot Luck, Beer Garden, and of course - the Post Race Party.

The 6.5 mile loop includes a trip around Lake Ahquabi’s multi-use trail with additional sections that include backwood trails. You will encounter gravel, dirt, roots, ruts, grass, logs, wooden bridges, climbs, fast descents, and the best nature has to offer on this scenic course. The loop will be the perfect test of one’s fitness with all of the full throttle speed and all of the climbing, but will not be technical in nature to scare off the entry level racer. In fact, this will be a perfect venue for first timers and experts alike. Come and join the fun!
