Blessing of Bicycles

Bridge-2-Bridge Ride

Celebrate the replacement of the two Cedar Valley Nature Trail bridges destroyed in the Great Flood of 2008.  Enjoy the diverse beauty that surrounds the trail including parks, woodlands, lakes, the Cedar River and parts of downtowns. Both routes will be marked with signage and we will have a designated sweeper so no one is left behind.

Short Version – 25 miles
This ride follows trails into Evansdale and then streets and trails until it connects with the Cedar Valley Nature Trail at the new Evansdale Bridge. Recognition of the community efforts to replace the bridge will be mentioned and then return on the same route. This ride is suitable for children.

Long Version - 65 miles
The ride follows the same route as the Short Version as far as the Evansdale Bridge, and then continues using streets and roads to La Porte City and connects with the Cedar Valley Nature Trail. The ride ends at McFarlane Bridge with recognition of the community efforts to replace the bridge and reconnect the trail. Return to Gateway Park will be via the same route for a 65-mile ride. Refreshments are available at Waterloo, Evansdale, Evansdale Bridge trailhead, La Porte City and at designated sites along the route. Support services will end at 2pm. This ride is not recommended for children. Members of the Cedar Valley Cyclists will lead this ride. Perkins Pancake Pedal

Let's ride to the University Avenue Perkins through the trails in George Wyth State Park. Enjoy free pancakes for those riding with a wrist band. Other items will be available for purchase. Sponsored by Perkins. 11 miles round trip.
 

Bike Rodeo

Exchange Park, Waterloo
The new Exchange Club Trike Track will provide a fun and scenic course and the adjacent basketball court will be transformed into a challenging, educational course; both for youngsters to practice safe cycling skills. Professionals from SCHEELS will inspect bikes and helmets, which are required. Loaner helmets and bicycles will be available from the Cedar Valley Bicycle Collective. Sponsored by I HOPE Chapter of AMBUCS and INRCOG.  
 

Brew & Bites Ride

Enjoy a ride around Big Woods Lake and return to downtown Cedar Falls for a stop at The Brass Tap. From there, the ride continues to Kudos Food Truck on 18th Street to sample Filipino American Cuisine, making a couple more sampling stops before ending in downtown Waterloo at SingleSpeed Brewing Co. Spend as much time on your own at each stop or ride along with the group. 13 miles one way - riders will return individually.
 

Police, Pedals and Popsicles

Family-friendly ride will start behind the Waterloo Public Library and head to the John Deere Tractor & Engine Museum for a fun tour. After a cool down with popsicles, riders will return, ending at Mark's Splash Pad! Sponsored by the Waterloo Police Department and Waterloo Public Library. 2.2 miles round trip. 


Veterans Ride

Are you a veteran or want to honor a veteran in your life?  Join us as we cycle from Gateway Park to the Cedar Falls Veteran Memorial, Veteran’s Hall, Waterloo’s Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial and the Grout Museum.  The Grout will provide complimentary refreshments and cyclists will pose for a group photo with U.S. hand flags provided by the Waterloo Exchange Club. Wear your military branch cycling jersey if you have one. 

Participating cyclists will receive a reduced entrance fee to the Grout Museum’s Sullivan Brothers Iowa Veterans Museum.  Veterans will have a chance to register with the Iowa Veterans Museum and learn about their “Oral History Veteran Interview Project” to tell their service story. This is a great way to help honor those who have served or are currently serving our country as we peddle into the 4th of July holiday! Sponsored by Cedar Valley Bicycle Collective, Exchange Club of Waterloo, the Veteran Affairs Commission of Black Hawk County, and the Grout Museum’s Sullivan Brothers Iowa Veterans Museum. 24 miles round trip.


Pedal and Paddle

Ride to Big Woods Lake and try your hand at paddling with kayaks provided by Cooks Outdoors. Instruction and life jackets will be provided. Ride limited to 30 participants. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Sponsored by Cooks Outdoors. 4-8 miles round trip.


Spooky Story Time Ride

This family-friendly ride will begin at Gateway Park in Cedar Falls taking the Cedar Valley Lakes trail and stopping at the Big Woods Campground for Spooky Stories and S’mores provided by the Cedar Falls Public Library. Return to the Gateway Park shelter for a book give away provided by Books Not Bombs Cedar Valley. Sponsored by the Cedar Falls Public Library. 4 miles round trip.


Mayor's Independence Day Extravaganza

While you're in town on June 30, stop at the RiverLoop Amphitheatre in Waterloo for the mayor's annual Independence Day celebration taking place 3:30 pm - midnight. There will be live music, entertainment, food, beverages and a fireworks show!

Denver Waffle Ride

Enjoy the scenery and good paved roads on a ride that will allow the riders to experience the rural landscape and bountiful farm fields of the area. This ride follows N. Main Street and Big Woods Road to Big Woods Park and then takes county roads into Denver. Enjoy “all-you-can-eat” waffles and all the trimmings at the Denver American Legion for $6. The route will be marked and a designated sweeper is assigned so no one is left behind. 30 miles round trip.


Pedal to the Metal (Public Art Tour)

Short Ride:  9 miles round trip 
View some of Cedar Falls’ beautiful Public Art on this ride.  Cycle past Big Woods Lake to Center Street to view Nest and then to the downtown area to see Epic, Gateway to the Trails, Showtime, Sinuate and Drop Leaf Chicken. Ride on to the Hearst Center Sculpture Garden and enjoy live music by Raldo Schneider, and snacks and beverages on the patio.  Music and snacks will be served from 11am-1pm.  Beer samples available while supplies last.   

Long Ride:  12 miles
The long ride is the same as the short ride and continues on to the UNI campus to view another 10 sculptures including Purple Wave, Nature’s Legacy and City Mouse, returning to the Hearst Center for live music and snacks. Sponsored by the Hearst Center and Second State Brewing Co.


Dirt Ride

Come join us for a Dirty Trail Ride! Take a tour of the Tondro Pray Bike Park, our new pump track and cyclocross race track. The park also features a new single-track route with different obstacles, rock drops and jumps. For those that are interested, we can split up and ride over to George Wyth State Park to experience some of the great single-track dirt trails. This ride would be best for BMX, mountain bikes, hybrids or fatties. Be sure to bring water bottles, insect repellant and lots of energy. HELMETS ARE REQUIRED! Riders of all abilities are welcome from beginners to advanced. Come out and get dirty! Sponsored by Cedar Valley Association for Soft Trails and Bike Tech. 6-10 miles round trip.
 

Faith to Faith Ride

Gateway Park, Cedar Falls
Visit three congregations in Cedar Falls and Waterloo. Begin in Gateway Park and ride to 1st Presbyterian Church in Cedar Falls, then to Nazareth Lutheran Church, also in Cedar Falls, then ride along bike paths to Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Waterloo. Each congregation will show us the beauty of their buildings and introduce us to some of their ministries. We expect to be finished by 4:00 pm when we will be free to ride home or explore the trails. About 15 miles, one way.

Registration

There is no cost to participate. Simply register at the location where the ride begins at the designated time. Helmets are required. Lights may also be required for some rides.
